How to develop your parenting to fit your child

In a book titled, “The Ten Basic Principles of Good Parenting” written by Dr. Laurence Steinberg (2005), readers can begin to learn how to adapt parenting to fit a child rather than make a child conform to parenting styles. Five areas of adaptation were discussed for parents:

-Keep pace with your child's development
-Adjust your parenting to your child's temperament
-Your child is unique
-Have patience during developmental transitions
-Your changing role as a parent

Chapter four goes into depth with these five principles but something that I would say is the most important thing to take out of this part of the book is that children grow and develop to become independent one day. A parent’s job is to guide a child towards independence that is appropriate for their age and capabilities. Parents must have patience, love, and understanding in order to help their child grow and develop to their fullest potential starting at a young age.
